What Being a “Resilient Technologist” Means to Me — Lessons from My Non-IT Journey

I never expected to leave tech — and certainly not for stamp papers and document desks. But that detour taught me more than I imagined. Here’s my story.

Hi everyone,

Today, I want to share a personal side of my journey — one that doesn’t involve code, databases, or apps — but still shaped who I am as a technologist and a human being.

From Database Developer to Document Desk

After working for over a decade in the IT industry, including roles in MySQL, Oracle, and iOS development, life took an unexpected turn. Due to personal and family situations — and later, the impact of the pandemic — I found myself stepping away from the tech world and into something very different:

  • Managing Stamp Paper Stock & Sales
  • Assisting in Government Document Registration
  • Running E-Stamping Services for clients and agencies

It wasn’t what I had trained for, but it was what my family needed. And in those years, I learned the real meaning of resilience.

Skills I Didn’t Expect to Use — But Did

Working in this environment taught me:

  • How to communicate clearly with clients under pressure
  • The importance of accuracy and accountability when handling legal documents
  • How to manage inventory, reporting, and client billing — all without automation

I dealt with people, paper, payments, and pressure. And it made me stronger. It made me precise. It reminded me that technology is only part of our toolkit — mindset is the rest.

Returning to Tech — But Wiser

Today, I’m back in the IT world — working as a Database Developer again. But I carry the lessons of my non-IT chapter with pride.

Being a resilient technologist doesn’t just mean keeping up with new tools — it means adapting when life changes, and growing even when you’re away from the keyboard.

To Anyone Facing a Detour...

If you're in a phase where you’ve stepped away from your career path — it’s okay. That chapter still counts. That work still builds you. And you can return stronger, with more than just technical skills — with real-world wisdom.

Thanks for reading. I hope this helps someone who’s going through their own journey right now. Feel free to leave a comment or connect with me anytime.

With resilience,
